Why Losing Weight Slowly Wins The Race

Win The Weight Loss Race

Losing weight slowly really does win the race.  I know you are not wanting to hear that.  But from personal experience I found this to be true.  But I can also tell you, it is worth the wait.

Unless your Doctor has told you he wants to see that weight off fast, (then you need to stay under his supervision), then you should stick to a slower weight loss regime.  The way I see it, or at least in my own case, habits can take a while to break.  I read somewhere that it takes 21 days to start or break a habit.  So, if you really have zero will power when it comes to huge changes such as weight loss, then you should make a simple change every 21 days.

I was able to make some changes to my diet right away that I barely noticed, so as low fat cheddar cheese for the regular one, it still tasted great.  I decided to spend some time in the beginning to really look at the things I was eating.  The first time at the grocery store after I was told to get rid of some weight, I went slowly and looked at the labels of everything.

I was not up on all the fat grams and carbohydrates, but I could see the calories, so I figured I would start there.  I was able to find many substitute foods that were NOT diet foods, just simply a different brand.

So, don’t put the pressure on yourself to be down a set amount of weight by a set date.  If you have tried and failed many diets, this will just cause stress and another set of “yo yo” dieting that is not good for your body.

I decided right at the beginning of my weight loss journey, that I would not push this too hard, I did not want to feel deprived but I did want to make changes.  So, I aimed for a couple of pounds per month.

You may find it easier to lose more, but for me a couple of pounds a month broken down is one pound every two weeks.  That was my goal, any more than that was bonus! Yes, 2 pounds won’t really show much, but by the next month you are now down 4 pounds and things will start to feel looser, so just keep going.

If you need to look slimmer now for that reunion or party, then there are clothes that make you look slimmer.  There are slimming under garments that will smooth out bulges and rolls, and you can quickly look like you lost 10 pounds.  But don’t do it with a crash diet the week before.

Make the decision to lose weight slowly, this way it will just become part of your day, just like you brush your teeth every day, so that there are no worries of putting it back on.  You will gradually adjust to your new way of eating, and then you can add some stairs or some walks with friends or something to get you moving.

Joining a dance class is a great way to kick start some exercise into your life.  Find one for your age group and maybe get some friends to join.  You don’t have to do everything at full speed.  There is nothing wrong with losing weight slowly.  You may find, like I did, that it will come off gradually and in that same time period you lose 20 pounds, many of your friends who are trying these liquid diets, or diet pills or simply dangerously reducing calories will have lost and gained it back.

You see the tortoise way of doing this can work.  It did for me, so don’t be impatient!  Make a simple little change each week if you can, and maybe a bigger one every 21 days to start a new habit and watch the weight slowly fall off.  You can do it!
